Sulnox, the greentech company delivering lower fuel costs and emissions with zero capex, is pleased to announce that its fuel conditioning technology, Sulnox Eco™, has been recognised for the 2026 Superyacht UK Sector Sustainability Award. The award was won by Barrow International, one of the Company’s distribution partners for the superyacht sector, whose entry featured the fuel saving, emissions reduction and engine protection capabilities of Sulnox Eco.
The award was voted for by members of Superyacht UK, the British Marine association representing the UK’s superyacht industry, including yacht builders, designers, shipyards and specialist suppliers.
As a category winner, Barrow International's submission now progresses to the British Marine Sector Awards National Finals, taking place at the Southampton International Boat Show on Monday 22 September 2026.
The global superyacht fleet now comprises more than 6,000 vessels over 30 metres (source: Monaco Yacht Show Market Report). A single 70-metre superyacht can burn around 500 litres of fuel per hour, and sector-wide emissions are projected to exceed 10 million tonnes of CO2 annually by 2030, up from an estimated 4.7 million tonnes in 2018 (source: Water Revolution Foundation). The industry also presents a distinct set of fuel-related challenges that Sulnox Eco is well-positioned to address:
Exhaust emissions in guest environments — incomplete combustion produces visible black smoke and particulate matter that fouls hull paintwork, teak decks, pool areas and guest spaces; Sulnox Eco reduces particulate emissions by c. 90%, helping improve the onboard environment
Growing HVO adoption — hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) is increasingly being adopted to reduce lifecycle emissions, but its lower lubricity can increase wear on engine components. Independent testing has shown Sulnox Eco improves HVO lubricity by 28%
Fuel storage during extended idle periods — superyachts frequently spend extended time at anchor or in lay-up, increasing the risk of water contamination and diesel bug; Sulnox Eco's emulsification properties help mitigate this and extends storage life
Operating costs and emissions performance — fuel represents a significant component of superyacht operating costs, and owners face growing pressure to demonstrate environmental responsibility; Sulnox Eco delivers an average 5% reduction in fuel consumption alongside reductions in CO₂, NOx and particulate emissions
